So you have purchased your goods. The factory tells you they can take care of shipping and customs. Have you bought on an ex-works agreement or FOB. In shipping terms, FOB (Free on Board) and FOD (Free on Destination) are important concepts:
FOB: This term indicates that the seller delivers the goods on board the vessel at the named port of loading. The risk and responsibility transfer to the buyer once the goods are loaded onto the shipping vessel.
Foreign people who come to Turkey always look for the easy option. This is not always the better choice.
Under ex-works, EXW, the seller simply prepares and makes the goods available at a named location (factory, warehouse, etc.) and provides basic documentation. The buyer handles loading, domestic transport, export clearance, international freight, insurance, import clearance, and final delivery.
We send all of our goods by CFR which means that our products are insured. Under CFR terms, the seller arranges and pays for sea transport, while the buyer assumes risk once goods are loaded onto the shipping vessel.
CFR is commonly used in international cargo shipping but differs from CIF, where the seller must also provide marine insurance.
We, working as an export agency, always buy our goods ex-works from the factory. We have contacts, our own shipping agency who gives us the best price available at the time of order. Our customs agent who has been taking care of our orders for the past five years totally problem free.
